This conversations dug pretty deep, considering that we thought our gender affected both of our opinions on the situation. Time was definitely an issue that prevented us from completely finishing the discussion, however it's possible that we will be able to reach a conclusion during our next session, as well as move onto the quotes. Overall, we made pretty good use of the time allotted to us, and in my book that's a success.
Day 7
Today I was once again, scribe. This session was a little shorter because we spent most of the period taking a vocabulary quiz, and discussing our projects assigned over spring break. The lack of time however, did not prevent us from making some progress. All of the time spent today was on questions, and I think that the overall theme was relationships. When I say relationships I'm referring to Katie & Officer McShane as well as Francie & Lee. One specific question that led to a great discussion was posed by Alison: was Lee only interested in sleeping with Francie or did he actually have feelings for her? John and I thought that Lee really liked her, but was in a predicament because he was already engaged to another woman. Christina and Alison felt that Lee was only trying to have sex to with someone while he was away from his fiance for a few days. Although we never exactly reached a conclusion about the book, we decided that our different points of view may be a result of our gender; males are more likely to stick up for males, and females for females.
